Minutes from Troop Committee meeting held January 19, 2006.

Participants: Brian Moore, Charlie Rachuig, Bob Centola, Charles McCray, Gail Marvin, Dan Lassiter, John Benavides, Craig Christensen, Randy Hood, Steve Weaver

1. There will be Troop led Junior Leader Training on Saturday, January 28th from 10AM to 1:30PM at RBF.  This training is recommended for all scouts who haven't had it before (rank is not important).   Mr. Montgomery will be teaching it.  There is a $5 fee for participation to cover lunch.

2. The District Camporee is coming up in March. (Camporee is on last weekend of spring break.)   It is the last weekend of RISD Spring Break.  North Trail District is planning it and information is on the web at "northrail.org".  Randy Hood is working on the handout:  All participants will bring a foil pack for Saturday dinner.  Troop will provide Sat Breakfast, Sat Lunch and Sun Breakfast.   Planning for 20-30 scouts, and about 8 Webelos.

       Randy will work up:

       * Menu

       * Duty chart

       * Tour permit - Camp Master is Craig Christensen

       * Estimate cost

2. Monday January 23rd is a regular Troop meeting night.

  We will have Webelos visiting.

  Good time to sign up from family campout which is February

  Also, there will be a presentation on coming OA elections.

  Do the Webelos demo - Gale, Craig, Dan, Brian.

  Bob and John take care of the adults.

3. Adult leader training is starting February 8th.  Information

4. Anyone interested in being an Adult leader should talk to John Benavides.

5. Family camp update

       Cooks are:

               Dave Knust

               Craig Christensen

               Cesar Aragon

               Kathleen Leff

       Rope bridge will be built.

       Saturday night is a Court of Honor.

       Bring Camporee Trophies to family campout

6. Philmont recruiting

  Voted unanimously by committee present to pay deposits for both treks (14 x $50 = $700).  Rick has gotten enough scouts to sign up to fill one trek.

7. Mitchell's campout -- Scoutmaster of recruiting

       ASPL of troop guides - Day activities

       Present plan, make flyer, March 4th.

       Announce Monday and put in Webelos handout.

       Saturday March 4th - Day camp, bring sack lunch, uniform, water

       Location - Church property

8. Camp master for Summer Camp - were elected (Weaver/Marvin)

9. May Campout (Pyre) - Canoeing

       Dennis is thinking about going to Lake Texoma

       Special request - go to camp worth

               High adventure

               Plan to pair it up for speed.

10. Suggestion to get a projector

       Subcommittee formed to investigate:

       Goal is to make recommendation:

11. Charlie will see if we can sell the old scouting books in our lockers.

12. Pop corn - Steve Weaver reported:

       Five boxes of micro-wave pop corn left -- $10 each.

13. Move Troop Committee meeting to March 9th.

   No meeting on March 13th due to spring break.

   Camporee planning Troop meeting on March 6th

Other information:

  Yale Pack, Pack 516, may be moving to RBF.

Minutes from Troop Committee meeting held February 23rd, 2006.

Participants:

       Jeanie Lawson, David Leff, Barron Fuentes, Gale Marvin, Laura Jones, Kathleen Leff, John Benavides

Camping:

Marksmanship campout plan presented by Barron Fuentes.

Looks like we are short three people on the Seabase trip.  Need 16.

Looks like we lost $1100 on the Lexington trip; time to organize a fund raiser.

April campout will be presented at March Troop Committee meeting.

May campout on May 5-7th

Webelos:

We have our Webelos membership joining date on March 20th

Need John, Gale, Craig, and Brian to work the event.

Other adults are welcomed to help as well.

Misc:

Just a reminder that people are responsible for reporting travel reimbursements over the legal limit.

We need to get driving insurance information updated.  John to talk to Dan.

Laura Jones will take care of the driver/duty roster for Camporee at the March 6th troop meeting.

Voted to move Troop Committee Meeting to March 23rd.

Summer Camp:

Troop is due to make next payments for summer camp on April 7th.

Summer camp fees from Council will be:

       $175 Early bird

       $195 Late fee

We will be adding travel and other costs on top of that.

We will have a summer camp sign up on April 8th

Sending out Summer camp information in April.

Scout Show:

Scout show is coming up -- May 13th.  We will be selling tickets soon.  This is a great chance for scouts to pay for part of their summer camp.  35% of the $5.00 fee will be credited to the scout's scout account.

0. Campout presentation for May campout - Pyros (Councilor - Dennis McCarthy)

  Initial list of adult participants:

       Shore: Marvin, Neal, Craig,

       Canoe: Dennis, John, Hunter

       OA Ordeal that weekend -- planning to participate: Mr. Moore and Mr. Weaver

  Dennis is going to provide John with the handout file for the web page.

1. Scout show - May 13th at Market Hall

  Scout show ticket sales time (35% Profit goes into your scout account for each ticket sold = $1.75 for $5.00 each).

  Tickets being handed out on March 26th

2. Discussion on starting to provide free kerchiefs for new scouts:

   Craig pointed out that other troops are now handing out troop kerchiefs to joining Webelos at crossovers.   There was an estimate that kerchief cost $2.50.

   There was a motion we have a fund raiser to start providing this benefit in the coming year.  Perhaps a dinner at the church.

3.  Summer Camp signup time is upon us.

   Council summer camp fee is $175 (early bird) and $195 late.

   John and Gale will be creating and sending out the information

4. Calendar updates:

   Calendar is missing:

       * Summer camp signup - May 8th (Same as Baseball game - 6PM)

       * Court of Honor - May 12th

               Bob is in charge of this.

       * SPL election process (Make nominations for SPL on March 27th -- pass out handouts for leadership positions) -- John to ask Rick to get this ready for Monday.  And copy Bob on email too.  Speeches and Election are on April 10th

       * Last meeting - Baseball - May 8th - 6PM

5. PLC update (Camporee feedback) - Hunter Christensen

  Went over Camporee and May campout.

6. Treasurer report - Jeanie Lawson

   Approved.

   John to ask Jeanie to take the stale scouts off the accounts.

7. Roundtable - Craig Christensen

   Oak leaf leadership training coming up - April 1st.

   Golden Acorn training signup available on Council web page.

   Golden Acorn is a week scout leadership training offered 5 times starting at end of June into July.  Orientation for Golden Acorn is at scout show.

   John to ask Rick to send out info on both Oak leaf and Golden Acorn.

8.  Door prizes were handed out.

Here are the minutes from our April Troop committee meeting (Apr 20th)

1. PLC update (Camporee feedback) - Hunter Christensen

    No report.

2. Roundtable - Craig Christensen

    REI did a demo on camping equipment at the roundtable -- they have lots of information on camping, canoeing, etc at their store and on the web.

    There is a comedy show being presented at Saint Marks as a Eagle scout project -- Admission is gently used or new book which will be donated to be given to Victory Meadow Learning center.   See "northtrail.org" for more details.  

    REI is also sponsoring a service projects to help the Herd Museum this next weekend -- conflicts with our campout.

3. Treasurer - Jeanie Lawson

    Report accepted.

4. Camping - Dennis McCarthy

    Status of upcoming activates:

        All set to go for this.

         WE ARE IN CRISES MODE BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH ADULTS

         AND WILL HAVE TO CANCEL ONE BOAT IF WE DON'T GET AN ADULT.

         There was a suggestion to try to recruit with George Kerr's venturing crew.

     June 3-16 - Northern Tier - Mr. McCarthy is coordinating

        On track -- full crew

     July 9-15 - Camp Constantin

        Information sent out.  Return forms on May 8th

     Philmont 2007 - Rick Montgomery is coordinating

5. Scout show - Dennis and Cindy McCarthy

        Collecting money for scout show on May 1st.

      Show is on May 13th.

6. Leadership - Rick Montgomery

      Results of SPL election -- Jack Benavides was elected SPL for next scouting year.

     Had April 1st, Oak leaf training - Drew Johnson-Scott participated

     Leadership job applications are due (First class and above are due by Baseball game.)    

     Craig would like to schedule a discussion in future for extending leadership duration of some leadership positions.

     For the patrol scribe job, we may need roll books that the scribes turn pickup and turn in at every meeting.  Should have an orientation meeting for new scouts with leadership positions in the early fall.

     New scouts take over their leadership jobs at Summer camp.

7. New Scouts - Gale Marvin

      o Recruiting - Charlie Rachuig

     There was a rumor shared that 777 is having trouble staying together.

     There was a suggestion that we see if the 777 troop want's to join us for Sea Base.

8. Advancement - Bonnie Branch

     o Eagles - Pat Kelly

     No report -- about three scouts are actively working on eagle.

     Scouts are running out of time for Scoutmaster Conferences (this campout, Apr 24th Troop meeting) and last chance for board of reviews is May 1st.  Need extra adults at that meeting to staff last minute board of reviews.

9. Meetings - Bob Centola

     Next Court of Honor is on Friday, May 12th.

     Bob owns planning it and sending out a list of patrol responsibilities.

10.  Other:

     Craig Christensen will be organizing an adult leadership orientation class for Thursday May 18th.  We will have a short (30 minute) troop committee meeting and then the leadership orientation -- refreshments/snacks will be provided.

     Craig reported that the T-shirt order is in flight.  Craig checking with David on its progress.  And a new batch of hats has been ordered.

11. 25th anniversary Dinner plans

     Sub-committee working: Janet Centola is organizing, Josie Olivarez was present and is assisting.  Others are welcomed to assist as well.

     Here are a list of suggestions that were voiced:

         Invite current and old troop 81 participants (Old scout master, eagles, SPL's)

         Also, send invitations to all the congressman and representatives in area.

         Have swimming and dinner.  Looking at early August timeframe.

         There was a suggestion of budgeting $5 per head -- make donation cup available.

         Send out paper invitations.  Maybe post cards.  Print on color printer.

         Dinner, swimming, slides shows, identify adults as scouts.

     For the May Committee meeting, the subcommittee will present their plan including: date/time, menu, actives, and proposed cost.
